1) A DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR called as DBA is an individual person or group of persons with an overview of one or more database who control the design and the use of these database.
DBA is responsible for the overall control of the system .
2) DBA is an IT professional.
3)DBA is responsible for authorizing access to the database and he has all control on database.
Following are the functions and responsibilities of DBA
1) Physical organization modification:
DBA manage all physical organization of the database and reflect the changing needs of the organization of the database to reflect the changing needs of the organization or to alter the physical organization to improve performance.
2) Granting authorization to the users.
DBA manage the responsibilities of authoring grants or permission to the end users to ensure availability of required data to them. Whenever end user want to access data they have authentication to access the data.
3) Backup and Recovery
The DBA must be maintain periodical backup and recovery of the database, either onto hard disks, compact disks or onto remote servers, to prevent loss of data in case of disasters. A DBA is also responsible for damage to the database due to misuse or software and hardware failures. He/ She take proper responsibility of backup data and recover whenever it needed.
4) Job Monitoring
DBA monitors jobs running on the database and ensure performance is not degraded. DBA making appropriate adjustment or tuning of the database for increase the performance of the database.
5)Conceptual schema and database creation
DBA creates the conceptual schema corresponding to the abstract level database design. Only DBA can create the original database schema and structure of the database.
